Building skills for life
The Fresh Start Cafe was established as part RECAP’s welfare to work initiative. We are a job readiness program designed to help individuals on public assistance gain the skills and confidence to succeed in today’s job market.
Under the guidance of culinary staff and in a restaurant setting, trainees learn culinary techniques used in a variety of restaurant positions, as well as customer service techniques and standards that translate across the service industry.
The program’s focus isn’t limited to kitchen skills, but includes training and hands-on experience with teamwork, communication skills, conflict resolution, time management, and job interviewing.
Continuing the mission of RECAP, Fresh Start Cafe hopes to bring economic revitalization by helping to reduce poverty and unemployment. We operate cafes in Middletown and Newburgh, serving breakfast, lunch, and baked goods. Lunch specials are available as well as catering for events large and small.
