Weather Assistance Program Program Description
Weatherization Helps: Save energy dollars Increase comfort in a home Preserves our housing stock Revitalizes neighborhoods Provide safe and affordable housing Reduces our dependence on foreign fuels
Services Include: Weather-stripping and caulking around doors and windows Testing, Cleaning and Tuning, or Repairs, to heating systems Insulation of Attics and Walls Replacement of broken exterior doors Repairs of broken windows And minor repairs as needed to ensure maximum efficiency from the weatherization services performed.
RECAP the provides high quality work performed by skilled RECAP personnel and in some cases hires local private contractors. All materials used must meet the high standards set by the state and federal government. Eligibility is based on the household meeting income relative to federal low income guidelines. If a household contains a member who receives Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Public Assistance, Food Stamps, or Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) benefits, the household is considered automatically eligible for Weatherization Services. All services are FREE and provided without obligation to the occupant of a home or rental unit. However owners of rental buildings re required to invest funds toward the cost of the Weatherization services. The NYS Division of Housing and Community Renewal's Weatherization Assistance Program is funded annually by the US Department of Energy. In-addition, DHCR receives funds from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program funded by the US Department of Health and Human Services through the NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.
